Last week, I shared an art journal page with you that I created about my word of the year, Flourish. Having a guiding word for the year is definitely an ongoing process of evaluation for me. When I start to question things, I tend to turn to my art journal to help me work it out. I’m struggling with the patience that seems to be required to flourish. The planting of seeds, the daily tending to of the seedlings, the weeding out of non-essential stuff…all in the hopes of bringing worth the beauty, the strength, the possibility of a life well lived. Below I’ve shared my process of creating this page. Grab your journal and play along with me…The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. I gathered up a few stencils, my handmade cardboard journal and a piece of scrap that I had journaled on.
In order to tie in the piece of stencil design already on my page, I used the 12×12 Tile Mania stencil and both yellow and orange to finish out the background.
Matte gel medium was used to adhere my scrap of deli paper with my journaling words. Since the deli paper had touches of green on it, I extended that color throughout the page with the 6×6 Endless Swirls stencil.
Once the modeling paste was dry, I placed the stencil back over the wings and added a layer of gold gesso for some shine.
The final touches were to reinforce my wording with a black paint pen, as well as use the pen for a few more doodling marks. I edged the page with a black ink pad and called it done.
