When I heard about the opportunity to try out The Write Dudes’ Infinity NEON Fine Point Permanent Markers, I already had this project in mind. So, of course, I said YES!
The cabinet was a freebie from my friend, Kristine, that I will be using to corral my crafting supplies. However, it was tall, white and boring!!! It is literally the first thing I see when I walk out of my bedroom (tiny apt!).
So once my new markers arrived, I started on my giant doodle project!
I used henna-inspired photos and designs that I found on the Internet to add flowers, swirls and curls using the black marker. These markers have a great fine point on them, so I was able to get a ton of details into the designs. There is also a triangular grip that made holding the marker for HOURS much easier!
The cabinet is a laminate surface which made drawing super easy. Since it was laminate, I did a test on an inside section of the cabinet to see about the durability of the markers on this particular surface. I let the test design cure for a few days and then tried getting it off with a baby wipe. It stayed! If you are planning to use stronger cleaners, then the designs might fade. This is not a cabinet that will get dirty but just in case, I stayed away from the handles with the design. This way, should I have to use a stronger cleaner by the handles, the design would still be fine.
Once all my black line work was finished, I went back in with a few of the colors to add some punch! I used the blues, greens and yellow to highlight areas.
Because of the laminate surface, the markers don’t dry instantly, so I had a bit of leeway to soften the edges of some of the colors. Working with a small section at a time, I applied the color and then used a cotton swab to blend out the color. It gives it a lovely watercolor effect. PS…this thins the marker ink considerably, so these would be the sections most susceptible to the cleaners. However, I loved the effect and felt it was worth it!!
I am not planning on sealing the cabinet, just giving it a long cure time. I love, love, love how it came it! The colors are beautiful and are such a pretty shade!
After working on the doodles, I am ready for all the henna designs we do at the county fairs in August! Bring it on!
